Dating back to 1752, the Methodist chapel that houses the globe at hay is simply stunning. With a stratospherically high ceiling and an original pulpit dominating one corner, the walls seem to seep atmosphere.

In 2008 the building was secured by The Institute of Art and Ideas, a registered charity dedicated to furthering the 21st century intellectual landscape. Under the moniker of the globe at hay, the IAI has missioned to promote cutting edge music, art and debate.

The regular programme features a diverse range of performance arts including comedy, theatre, poetry and of course music. The space is decorated wall-to-wall with works of art, with a new exhibition on a monthly basis. We are also home to a range of community groups, you can try your hand at reading Shakespeare, choral singing, amateur dramatics and much besides.

The globe at hay also features two internationally renowned festivals, HowTheLightGetsIn and Crunch: the art and music festival at hay.
